  2. Volunteer to be a Regular Session Organizer

    The 2019 Program Committee is seeking volunteers to organize sessions for the open submission regular paper topics. The deadline to volunteer is February 2, 2018. Volunteering does not guarantee an invitation to organize. Anyone volunteering to organize an open submission regular session must abide by the guidelines governing such work and meet the eligibility requirements.

    The program for the 2019 Annual Meeting is now taking shape under the leadership of President-elect Mary Romero and the 2019 Program Committee. The theme of "Engaging Social Justice for a Better World" invites participation across the discipline and provides many opportunities to bring together a variety of sociological work in diverse formats.

    Members are encouraged to submit session proposals for the following components of the program:

    This year, the ASA is excited to expand its Annual Meeting career development offerings for job seekers. The new Career Center will host a second year of the Employment Fair as well as introduce the new Prep Talks series.

  5. 2018 Theme

    Each year, ASA’s president chooses a theme on which to focus some of the programming for the ASA Annual Meeting—a tradition that ensures our meetings reflect the rich diversity of perspectives and subject matter in our discipline.  2018 ASA President Eduardo Bonilla-Silva chose the theme “Feeling Race." His conception of his theme is below.

    Each year, ASA’s president chooses a theme on which to focus some of the programming for the ASA Annual Meeting—a tradition that ensures our meetings reflect the rich diversity of perspectives and subject matter in our discipline.  2016 ASA President Ruth Milkman chose the theme “Rethinking Social Movements." Her conception of her theme is below.

    Each year, ASA’s president chooses a theme on which to focus some of the programming for the ASA Annual Meeting—a tradition that ensures our meetings reflect the rich diversity of perspectives and subject matter in our discipline.  2017 ASA President Michèle Lamont chose the theme “Culture, Inequalities, and Social Includion across the Globe." Her conception of her theme is below. 

  8. Volunteer to be a Presider, Table Presider, or Discussant

    The deadline to volunteer was January 9, 2019.

    ASA is now accepting volunteers to serve as Presider, Table Presider, or Discussant for sessions on the 2019 program. Volunteers identify the topics in which they are interested, and session organizers will contact volunteers directly if they are looking for presiders or discussants. Volunteering does not guarantee an invitation will be extended, and these roles do count towards the program participation limit of two appearances.
