The ASA Research Department surveyed sociology departments across the country at three separate times between the 2000-01 and 2011-12 academic years. The surveys were sent to department chairs and asked for information regarding the structure of the department, the degrees and courses offered, faculty and student counts, resources available to faculty and other related items. Participating departments received the data they provided about their own department compared to aggregated data provided by peer departments. Additionally, data gathered from these surveys were used to provide information about sociology departments nationally and to identify issues facing many departments. The survey instruments used to gather these data and the research briefs produced from each of these surveys can be found below.
